A new food challenge #FrozenHoney is trending on TikTok that has gain attraction of more than a billion viewers, another similar hashtag #FrozenHoneyChallenge has more than 130 million views on TikTok.
TikTok star Dave Ramirez started the trend
The new frozen honey challenge insists users to consume frozen honey. The trend was created by a TikTok user Dave Ramirez (@daveyrz) on July 9 by confessed he’d eaten frozen honey, that was pretty refreshing.
What is Frozen Honey Challenge?
To perform this challenge you have to fill a water bottle full of honey or honey mixed with some other substance and put the bottle into the freezer. Once the whole concoction is frozen, the challenge involves squeezing the bottle so that a frozen, golden shaft of honey comes out the opening and then taking a big bite of the shaft, while filming the whole thing. In doing so, you end up consuming a lot more honey that you normally would in one sitting. After all, you may be more used to a dash of honey in your tea rather than a shaft of honey.
Aa per FoodData Central USDA’s online nutrition database, a tablespoon of honey contains around 63.8 calories and 17.2 grams of sugar by itself while a tablespoon of corn syrup contains around 60 calories and 9 grams of sugar. Altogether, a tablespoon of honey and corn syrup contains roughly 123.8 calories and 26.2 grams of sugar.
This trend is the equivalent of eating a lot of candy at once there’s no health benefit, and it can lead to sugar crashes, which often cause food cravings and digestive discomfort.

Some participant felt nauseated or gastrointestinal problems
Unfortunately, some users have felt nauseous or developed gastrointestinal symptoms after attempting this challenge. Consuming high amount of sugar can cause blood sugar level to extremely up. High doses of sugar can also impact the gastrointestinal tract and lead to nausea, bloating and diarrhea.
As for blood sugar, what is likely to happen is that as an abnormally high level of sugar rushes into your bloodstream, your pancreas releases a larger than normal level of insulin to help store or utilize those sugars, which is that sugar high and then crash.
Sarah Rueven – Dietician
Frozen honey has a high level of sugar, which leads to cavities. I would recommend if you are going to eat frozen honey, rinse your mouth with water right after eating it to remove excess sugar on the teeth. Brush and floss if the situation allows. Biting into anything hard may also cause teeth to fracture, that’s why you should be extra careful while eating frozen honey.

It’s recommended to limit daily sugar intake to 36 grams for men and 25 grams for women and teenagers. If you want to try the trend, go for a small amount of honey.
