Chihuahua – Mexico: A 20-year-old Mexican woman Areline Martínez was accidentally shot dead while filming a TikTok video when a TikTok video she was filming went horribly wrong where she and 10 other group friends staged her kidnapping.
In the video, Areline Martínez appeared to be blindfolded with her hands and ankles bound at a small farm home in the Chihuahua neighborhood of Rigoberto Quiroz on Friday showing Martínez sitting in a chair pretending to struggle with her pretend captors. At least 10 people were present. Areline Martínez and several others were filming a faked kidnapping for social media app when one of the people pretending to abduct her accidentally shot her in the head. It is unclear why a real, loaded gun was used as a prop.
The mother-of-one was seen sitting next to a young man who played the role of a hostage when a second man second male playfully attacked the pair. A third man is then seen waving an automatic weapon at the pair.
The TikTok video then shows another man forcing the male hostage onto his knees on the the dirt pavement while the gun is pointed at the back of his head. Martínez’s hands and feet were bound when authorities found her body at 10 p.m. on Friday. The .45-caliber bullet that pierced her brain killed her instantly.
Two men present at the scene fled in a Jeep Cherokee immediately after shooting her. They have been identified thanks to footage police found at the scene but their whereabouts are still unknown.
One of the hypotheses is that they were tampering with a firearm thinking that it was not loaded and they shot the woman. If someone has a criminal responsibility, they will have to answer. There are several facts to investigate: the unfortunate death of the young woman and the origin of that weapon and how it came to their hands.

All the people filming the staged abduction then fled the seen. The Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office said that one of the 10 people present the moment Martínez was shot called the police to report the incident. The state prosecutor added the shooter must not have been aware that the gun was loaded before accidentally pulling the trigger. The group previously filmed several similar videos feigning a kidnapping, which she had posted to social media.
In her last Instagram post made the day of her death, Martínez, who leaves a year-old baby, wrote ‘Time doesn’t stop, neither do I’. A funeral service was held for Martínez on Monday.
