Dublin- Ireland: Ireland’s Data Protection Commission, that lead data privacy regulator in the European Union has opened two inquiries into the TikTok at their regional headquarters in Ireland. The probe related to the processing and transfers of children’s personal data to China.
The probe refers to how TikTok handles children’s information, whether it complies with Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that includes to analysis the processing of personal data in the context of underage users and age verification measures for under 13 kids.

Secondly, the Ireland’s Data Protection Commission will examine how TikTok’s transfers kids personal data to China whether the TikTok meets the requirements set out in the regulation to transfers personal data to another country.
The privacy and safety of the TikTok community, particularly our youngest members, is our highest priority. We’ve implemented extensive policies and controls to safeguard user data and rely on approved methods for data being transferred from Europe, such as standard contractual clauses. We intend to fully cooperate with the Data Protection Commission.

The Irish regulator’s announcement of two own volition enquiries follows pressure from other EU data protection authorities and consumers protection groups which have raised concerns about how TikTok handles’ user data generally and children’s information specifically.
In August 2021, TikTok announced stricter privacy controls for teenagers, seeking to address criticism that it has failed to protect children from hidden advertising and inappropriate content.
Ireland’s data watchdog earlier this month levied a record 225 million euro (US$265.64 million) fine on Facebook’s WhatsApp under the EU’s 2018 General Data Protection Regulation law (GDPR).
