Seattle – US: Amazon email its employees to remove the TikTok app from their smartphones, amid security risks and geopolitical concerns. TikTok has come under scrutiny because of fears it could share data with China.
Just after five hours, Amazon reversed course, saying the email to employees was sent mistakenly.
This morning’s email to some of our employees was sent in error. There is no change to our policies right now with regard to TikTok. Amazon emailed reporters just before 5 pm Eastern time.
In the initial email Amazon officials said:
Amid security risks employees must delete the TikTok app from all devices that access Amazon email. Employees had to remove the app by July 10, to remain able to obtain mobile access to their Amazon email.

In a statement, company spokeswoman Kristin Brown said,
This morning’s email to some of our employees was sent in error. There is no change to our policies right now with regard to TikTok.

TikTok official said the company had not received any communication from Amazon before the email went out.
